D-Day - Air Interdiction

In order to prevent German reinforcements reaching the Normandy beachheads on D-Day, Allied aircraft carried out a planned programme of bombing of communications links in France. Railway yards, bridges, viaducts, airfields and road junctions were bombed by US and RAF heavy bombers. In addition, tactical fighter-bombers roamed the countryside looking for targets of opportunity, such as trucks and trains.
