D-Day - OMAHA Beach
OMAHA beach lay between Vierville-sur-Mer and Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, and would be attacked by US forces. The terrain here is a concave beach bounded on the landward side by a sea wall and shingle bank, all overlooked from high ground. Four valleys lead off the beach, through which US troops would have to pass in the face of flanking German defensive strongpoints.
On D-Day, several waves of infantrymen and engineers were landed on OMAHA and took part in some of the bloodiest fighting of the day.
