Sennelager Training Area

The Sennelager Training Area is a 116 square kilometer area of heath and forest land north of Paderborn, Germany. The area has been used for military training since the late 19th century, and during the Cold War it was administered by the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR).

This gallery features images taken in the 1980's which illustrate many of the features of the military training area, from armoured vehicles and firing ranges to barracks and assault courses. Also featured is a mock-up of a housing estate, used to train British soldiers to operate in built-up areas prior to their deployment to Northern Ireland.
