Fairey Surveys was a commercial air and ground survey firm, established during the 1920s. Based in Maidenhead, the bulk of its commercial work was carried out overseas. It held 287,000 monochrome and 3,200 colour negatives of the UK, predominantly vertical, survey format (230mm x 230mm) photographs. In late 1986, films over a certain age were destroyed and recycled to recover silver from the photographic emulsion.
