Biographical/Historical note
No.168 Squadron was formed at Snailwell on 15 June 1942 as a tactical reconnaissance unit in Army Co-operation Command. In July 1943, the squadron joined No.123 Airfield of the newly-formed Second Tactical Air Force and began reconnaissance support. In October 1944, it converted to Typhoons and spent the next four months flying armed reconnaissance sweeps over Germany and providing cover for day bombers. On 26 February 1945, the squadron was officially disbanded but operations continued for two more days before No.168 was grounded.
