Images of the Alps released
A new batch of 6,700 historical aerial images of Austria and southern Germany has been released and is now accessible online.
The imagery is high-quality survey photography flown by the US Air Force for the US Army Mapping Service (AMS) in 1953. Highlights include cover of the Austrian Alps, where the extent of several glaciers can be seen in their 1953-state, the Mooserboden dam seen under construction, and the pyramidal peak of Großvenediger, in the Hohe Tauern National Park.
This release brings our online AMS coverage to over 14,700 images of Austria, Germany and Libya. The imagery was copied as part of the NCAP digitisation programme, that will make at least 300,000 aerial images available online by July 2014.
