Description: Oblique aerial photograph taken facing South West.
View south over the River Orne and the Caen Canal, north of Drop Zone Yankee, where Horsa gliders of 6 Airborne Division can be seen. From here, elements of 9th Battalion the Parachute Regiment moved north to assault the Merville Battery, which threatened Juno and Sword beaches. Of note is the feathered propeller of the port engine, which had malfunctioned early in the sortie. The pilot continued with his mission and returned to base at Mount Farm with his photographs.
